Regional Positions in AIESEC - they are the ones!

Wow! 4 days without posting in my weblog. Gaudhy (my former room mate) and actually many other people shall be proud of me. He! I feel like an addict trying to leave her addiction.

Now, coming back to business! As many of you might know, but specially after the "2004 2005 period sucess!" (period that has not still finished by the way), AIESEC is sort of having regional boards. Regional Boards composed by people that work on regional positions. For oldies in AIESEC that is something new ... or not that new actually, cause talking with an Alumni of the old called "Americas region" (today called Spanish Speaking Growth Network, at least the Latin part of the Americas) he told me that this kind of regional spots existed in the past.

ONE YEAR AGO, I got the spam where it was told that I was selected to be the first (in the new age at least) SSGN Coordinator, first full time regional position in the history of SSGN. Weeks after Veronica joined me as ER Coordinator.

Same history in other GNs. Our dear Mike (my fellow director for the next term in AI) is the (central and eastern europe) is currently CEE project manager. And next term his board also got bigger, selecting also an ER coordinator. Same in WENA (western europe and north america) even if not called board, had people working at regional level, for instance Hanna, as chair. As you see, this year no names of positions and stuff was standard, but people were there DOING WHAT THEY HAD TO DO: connecting on the ground global and regional strategies, providing the coordination that anybody could give before, raising money and making it again available for countries. In SSGN at least the return on investment was awsome.

All this beautiful story, however had some challenges. Many were the discussions around at the beginning if such positions should exist. Many people were against arguing that it was just a paradigm to think "that problems would be solved just adding people", and that this would just add a fake hierarchy to the organization. Valid risks, if we manage to express them properly. However I truly trust in the strategy, not only as current regional person, but as future director in charge of leading the next SSGN board.

And yes! we have a bunch of elected people for GN Boards next term!

First MY BABIES, for SSGN Board:
